Breast Lift in Middletown, NJ

Board-certified Red Bank plastic surgeon Dr. John Taylor performs breast lifts on area residents who want to lift their breasts to a more upright position.

What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes breasts that have begun to sag due to age, pregnancies, dramatic weight losses, and other issues. Breast lifts do not increase the size or volume of the breasts but simply lift them to a more natural and youthful position. In some instances, a breast lift may be followed by breast implant surgery to increase breast fullness as well.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

While breast lifts do not increase the size of breasts, they do lift and alter the appearance as well as offer the following benefits:

How Is a Breast Lift Performed?

Dr. Taylor performs breast lift procedures in fully accredited hospitals and surgical facilities under general anesthesia. Taking approximately 2-3 hours, the surgery begins by making an incision around the areola and extending it straight down to the crease underneath the breast (a “lollipop” incision). In some cases, the incision also continues along the crease under the breast (an “anchor” incision). The length and extent of the incision depend on the amount of excess skin to be removed as well as the quality of the skin. Once the excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is reshaped and lifted and the remaining skin tightened as the incisions are closed. The nipple-areola complex is repositioned to a natural, more youthful height and, if necessary, the size of the areola can be reduced. Dressings are applied to the incisions and a support bra is worn to minimize swelling and to support the breasts as they heal.

Preparing for a Breast Lift

To prepare for a breast lift, you may be asked to do the following:

  • Get lab testing
  • Get a medical evaluation
  • Adjust or discontinue current medications
  • Take certain medications
  • Get a baseline mammogram
  • Stop smoking
  • Not take aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements
  • Make travel arrangements for someone to drive you to and from surgery
  • Arrange for someone to stay with you the first night following surgery

Recovery from a Breast Lift

Initial healing includes swelling and discomfort at the incision sites. Discomfort is controlled with prescribed oral medication, and antibiotics are taken to prevent infection. A return to light, normal activity is possible usually within a few days of surgery, but strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for up to 6 weeks. Patients usually return to work within 1-2 weeks. The final results will appear over a few months as the breasts settle into their new shape and position. Incision lines are permanent, but the scars will fade and significantly improve in appearance over time.

How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost?

A breast lift procedure varies with each patient just as the shape and size of their breasts do. During your consultation with Dr. Taylor, we can discuss the cost of the procedure in addition to details about the procedure itself. We do require with cosmetic surgery that full payment is made at least two weeks prior to the procedure, and we accept most major credit cards in addition to cash or check. We also offer financing through CareCredit®. While most health insurance companies do not cover cosmetic procedures, if your breast lift is medically necessary (such as symmetry surgery following breast cancer surgery), your health insurance plan may cover part of the cost.
