FACIAL FILLERS (INJECTABLES)
Recent developments in the study of facial aging have determined that sagging skin is not necessarily the only culprit. Instead we fall prey to the three D's of aging: deterioration, deflation and descent. As we age collagen in the skin deteriorates and facial fat pads deflate and descend. Instead of letting the signs of aging get the best of them, patients are now taking matters into their own hands...or, rather, into the very skilled and well-trained hands of Dr. Taylor.
Injectable fillers are substances that enhance the fullness of soft tissues, primarily in the face. Some fillers are based on natural substances, like hylauronic acid. Others are synthetic forms of these substances and some may contain biocompatible compounds. Still others stimulate your skin to produce collagen, restoring volume. These products work in different way to enhance and restore facial contours and reduce the appearance of lines and creases. In addition, they are used to plump lips, soften wrinkles, enhance shallow contours and improve the appearance of recessed scars. Injectable fillers can even be used for hand rejuvenation. Effective and safe use requires a physician with specialized training and a thorough understanding of anatomy, like Dr. John Taylor, to recommend and inject an appropriate filler.
Dr. Taylor carefully evaluates each patient's facial appearance and skin tone to develop a strategic approach that will achieve the best cosmetic results. Together, he and the patient will agree upon the best course of treatment. This is done during a personalized consultation where Dr. Taylor will carefully explain the type of injectable recommended, the results expected and how long the results are expected to last.
Make-up should be removed prior to treatment. Patients may wish to apply a topical numbing cream about one hour prior to coming into the office to help manage injection discomfort. Another option may be to administer a local anesthetic block while in the office to provide numbing of the area. No anesthetic is necessary for BOTOX® Cosmetic and although the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are not apparent for a couple of days, the results of soft tissue augmentation using injectable fillers are apparent immediately.
The initial appearance may include swelling and bruising but this will resolve within a matter of hours or just a few days. Patients are given ice packs in the office to alleviate any temporary, minor discomfort or swelling. An herbal homeopathic regimen, Arnica Montana, may also be offered to patients to help bruising and swelling resolve more quickly. Most importantly, the final result is a smoother, fuller and more youthful appearance.
