Sculptra® is an injectable filler made of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic polymer. This material has been safely used for many years in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants and has the remarkable property of stimulating the body's own collagen synthesis. It is used to restore lost volume in the face with longer-lasting results of collagen stimulation. The advantage of Sculptra® is that large areas of facial volume are restored with the patient's own collagen rather than a synthetic filler. Patients are asked to apply a numbing cream to the treatment area one hour prior to their visit. Injections are given below the surface of the skin in the areas of fat loss in a series of 3-4 treatments, approximately 6-8 weeks apart. Ice packs are applied to help reduce swelling and the area is massaged to distribute the product evenly. A yearly single touch-up is recommended to maintain the results long term. The results are amazing, only improving with time and lasting for two or more years. Dr. Taylor is so specialized in the use of this product that he is a Sculptra® trainer to other physicians who wish to learn the artful technique of injecting this product.
