Acne Treatment in Middletown, NJ

Most teens, and even some adults, are susceptible to acne breakouts no matter how diligent they are with hygiene. At Allure Plastic Surgery Center’s MedSpa, we offer acne treatment for teens who endure the physical and mental anguish of dealing with acne breakouts.

What Is Acne Treatment?

Acne occurs when sebaceous glands produce excessive amounts of oil and clog the openings of hair follicles (pores) sometimes to the point that they can become slightly swollen and inflamed. For the most part, acne develops in teens around puberty but can occur in adults. The definite cause is unknown, but it is linked to hormone increases.

At Allure Plastic Surgery Center’s MedSpa, we have a plan called “Keeping up with the Breakout”. This plan is a personalized skin plan that includes nutritional guidance, clinical treatments, and a home care regimen. It provides the most advanced and corrective treatments to clear up problematic skin and reduce post-inflammatory redness. It is also effective for adult acne. Depending on the type of acne and its seriousness, there are several courses of action to reduce and control acne from topical ointments and solutions to laser therapy.

Benefits of Acne Treatment

Professional acne treatment is available to help teens and adults control breakouts. With the advanced treatments, patients with acne experience the following benefits:

  • Reduce breakouts
  • Diminish the severity
  • Reduce chances of acne scarring
  • Treat acne resistant to over-the-counter medications and ointments
  • Restore healthy appearance
  • Has little to no downtime depending on the selected treatment

How Do Acne Treatment Procedures Work?

Acne treatments are typically performed at the MedSpa and depending on the treatment can take about 60 to 90 minutes to complete. For some procedures such as laser therapy, a topical numbing cream is available if necessary. The most common procedures used to treat acne include the following:

  • Laser Therapy. Lasers shrink sebaceous glands and decrease inflamed blood vessels to improve the skin’s quality.
  • Anti-Inflammation Therapy. This therapy is designed to treat inflamed acne and cystic acne.
  • Skin Care Treatments. Professional skin care treatments are prescribed to help diminish and control acne. For more severe cases, chemical peels may be recommended to exfoliate the skin without burning healthy tissue or further aggravating the acne. And with specialized skin care products, we can prescribe a specific cleansing regimen to help maintain the skin and control acne.

In some cases, we often recommend antibiotics as well as prescription topical medications to be taken or used in combination with other therapies.

Preparing for Acne Treatment

There is specific advanced preparation for acne treatment. Patients are given a set of instructions to follow prior to the treatments. For some, we may recommend the following:

  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications, vitamins, and supplements the week prior to the procedure
  • Arrive at the treatments with clean skin free of any make-up, perfumes, or moisturizers

Recovery from Acne Treatment

The recovery depends on the treatment with some taking a few days for redness to disappear. Most treatments do not involve any recovery period. For deeper, more involved procedures, patients may need a day or two to let the skin recover from the treatment. That is why we like to recommend these types of treatments at the end of the week, so that the weekend is available for recovery.

How Much Does Acne Treatment Cost?

The cost of acne treatment depends on the course of treatment to best achieve the desired results. During your consultation with our skin care consultant, Audrey Fey, we can discuss the cost as well as payment options. We accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards. Additionally, we offer financing through CareCredit® for patients to help make it more affordable. Some treatments may be covered by health insurance as acne is a health condition that often requires medical attention. We can help you determine your coverage. We do ask that full payment be made prior to your appointment.

Is Acne Treatment Right for Me?

Acne treatment is based on a desire to have clear skin without the appearance of blemishes. For some, the issue is much more severe and requires attention while others simply want to have clear skin and would like a skin care regimen to help make it possible.
