Microdermabrasion in Middletown, NJ
At Allure Plastic Surgery Center’s MedSpa in Red Bank NJ, patients look to microdermabrasion as a skin care treatment to help refresh and restore the skin’s natural beauty.
What Is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a skin care treatment that gently buffs away dry and damaged skin using mechanical exfoliation to gently remove the uppermost layer of dead skin cells from the face, chest, and hands to reveal fresher, brighter, and smoother skin sometimes in as little as one treatment. Microdermabrasion can treat multiple skin conditions such as mild acne, age spots, enlarged pores, keratosis pilaris (KP), and dull matte skin as well as different types of skin.
Benefits of Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is very popular for people wanting younger-looking skin because it offers the following benefits:
- A quick procedure that can be performed at lunchtime
- No downtime following the treatment
- No noticeable side effects
- Improve hyperpigmentation and other skin discoloration
- An effective treatment for acne
How Is Microdermabrasion Performed?
Microdermabrasion is similar to using a very fine sander to exfoliate the top layers of skin and then stimulate the new skin to grow. There are two methods to perform microdermabrasion. The first one is a handheld device with tiny crystals on the end of it that goes across the skin to remove the outer layers. As it does, a vacuum sucks the dead skin into the machine along with the crystals. The second is a more advanced method and involves a wand with a diamond-shaped tip. Audrey Fey moves the wand over the targeted area to remove dead skin. Either method results in glowing and younger-looking skin.
Each treatment takes about 20-30 minutes with no downtime for the skin to recover. Immediately following the treatment, a soothing serum and moisturizer are applied to see and feel the full effects of microdermabrasion.
For the most part, patients begin with two treatments to achieve their desired goal then set up a monthly maintenance plan to keep their youthful appearance.
Preparing for Microdermabrasion
To prepare for microdermabrasion, there are several recommendations for each patient:
- Stop smoking as it affects the outcome of microdermabrasion
- Avoid products with aspirin or salicylic acid prior to the treatments
- Avoid other skin rejuvenation treatments such as peels, waxes, and other serums that may affect the skin a week prior to treatments
- Stay out of the sun prior to the treatments
Recovery from Microdermabrasion
There is no downtime or recovery with microdermabrasion. Our skin care analyst may suggest a moisturizer to use following the treatment to ensure full benefits of the treatment.
How Much Does Microdermabrasion Cost?
The cost of microdermabrasion depends on the extent of the areas to be treated and may be performed in conjunction with other skin rejuvenation treatments. During your consultation, we can discuss the cost with you as well as our payment options. Generally, we accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards. We also offer financing through CareCredit® and ask that full payment be made prior to any cosmetic treatment or procedure.
Is Microdermabrasion Right for Me?
If you are seeing signs of skin discoloration or sun damage or feel your skin has lost its youthful glow, microdermabrasion is an excellent option for most any skin type as a part of an effective skin care plan to rejuvenate the skin’s appearance. Also, if you are otherwise happy with the condition of your skin, but are looking for a monthly “refresher,” microdermabrasion may be for you.
